Location: Apex, NC Meet Jemma! Jemma is a beautiful 2.5 yr old red female ACD. Active and very intelligent, Jemma loves all people! Since she exhibits a strong desire to work alongside her person, Jemma would thrive best if placed in a home where she is the apple of her parents’ eye and can participate as a running /hiking partner or in working sports, such as agility, etc. Jemma exhibits all the usual traits of the breed in terms of physicality, drive and confidence, and will only be placed in an ACD savvy home with breed experience. She’s a sweet girl who needs consistent and confident leadership in order to not outwit her person. As intelligent and active as she is, she is happiest being next to and working alongside her person. Jemma currently lives peacefully on a farm with several dogs and prefers the alpha female role. She gets along well with other socially appropriate dogs. Jemma has been respectful of cats in the home, but does exhibit a prey drive towards the chickens on the farm. Jemma is house trained and crate trained, but due to her still acting “puppy-like” at times, she is provided with plenty of toys and bones to occupy her mouth. Jemma is 36 lbs, spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. She has recently been diagnosed with CSK (chronic superficial keratitis) and the condition is treated with a daily eye drop, which she takes willingly. Jemma’s vision is excellent and should remain so as long as the eye drops are administered as prescribed. She will require regular checkups with an eye specialist, so her adopter should be willing to understand and comply with this medical condition. Jemma currently sees the eye specialist in Cary, NC about every 4-6 months. This pretty girl has all the goods to make a perfect canine companion with a person who is willing to put the time into her and continue her training. Jemma is currently residing in Apex, NC.
